Soundwalk with Dr. Henry McPherson

On 21st May, 1-3pm, the Environmental Humanities Research Network is hosting a Soundwalk workshop led by musician and Creative Manchester research associate Dr. Henry McPherson.

The soundwalk will take place across the University of Manchester campus and surrounding area, starting outside the main doors of the Samuel Alexander Building at 1pm.

This workshop will explore environmental listening and soundwalking across the UoM campus and surrounding area. Led by musician and Creative Manchester research associate Dr Henry McPherson, we will explore some simple exercises in attentive listening, reflect on sound and soundscape as a medium for thinking about human-environmental relations, and discuss strategies for employing audio-based creative methods within participatory and other socially engaged research.

Please meet outside the main doors of the Samuel Alexander building at 1pm. As this workshop involves walking outside, please bring weather appropriate clothes (and sunscreen/water bottles/umbrellas) as required.

The workshop will focus on areas of campus which are accessible and level (please do get in touch with any specific access needs, or questions, ahead of the session). You may also wish to bring a notebook and something to write with, for the reflective components of the afternoon.
